Anyone wishing to coach (whether head coach, assistant coach, practice coach, etc.) MUST fill out the coaches registration form (link is at top of page) and submit the 2019 Volunteer Application form to the WTLL office. Both of these are required in order for anyone to coach in our organization for liability and insurance reasons and will trigger a background check.
Coaches are allowed to form their own team as long as the player chooses to play for them. Teams are allowed to stay together in the fall however in the Spring players are drafted based on skillset.
As a coach, once you have your roster please turn it into the West Tampa Little League office by emailing it to email@example.com. Deadline to have rosters turned in is February 4th, 2019.
West Tampa Little League encourages coaches to utilize the resources provided by USA Baseball, Little League, and District 6. Each organization provides in-depth information on practice plans, drills, rules, and fun games to keep your players engaged.
Baseball is a game of repetition and therefore practice is a key component in the development of every player. For this reason, WTLL asks that each coach hold a minimum of 1 practice a week. Practice days and times are determined by the WT League Office. West Tampa Little League encourages coaches to speak with the players’ parents to determine which day and time works best for their team. Please keep in mind that practice fields and batting cages are scheduled and availability is limited, please do not use the fields unannounced. This is the policy of the park that we must abide by. No team or individual will have exclusive rights to a field. If more than one team is at the same site at the same time, we ask that the coaches work together to share the field and space available. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your practice for field days and batting cage. All practice schedules will be posted here:
Below are some links and documents to assist coaches in creating practice plans and ideas on what to do at practice. Please feel free to use these and also do your own research for practice plans and ideas. League rules for each age group can be found here.
